Were there any friendly fire incidents involving American submarines, aircraft carriers, or battleships during World War II or World War I?

USS Tang pictured above, was an ace US submarine… until she literally sank herself with a circular running torpedo.

USS Pompano was mistakenly bombed by aircraft from USS Enterprise but managed to escape.

Oh yeah. These kinds of incidents are quite common even in modern war, let alone back then.

Why do gun owners feel the need to defend themselves with deadly weapons? Can they not just talk things out like civilized people do?
